WHAT WE DO
The West Vancouver Community Foundation is a reflection of the great value that individuals, families and businesses place on West Vancouver, its heritage, its people and its communities. Since 1979, when the foundation was started, donors have helped create a charitable endowment of over $13 million, the income from which supports non-profit organizations, community projects and scholarships, today and into the future.
The West Vancouver Community Foundation is incorporated under the Societies Act of British Columbia and registered as a Charitable Organization with the Canada Revenue Agency.
To donors, the West Vancouver Community Foundation offers expert assistance in learning more about the causes they care about, and the ability to make positive change by contributing with others that share similar interests. To the community at large, the foundation offers a permanent, growing source of funds for community projects, leadership grants and scholarships.
THREE SPECIAL FEATURES OF COMMUNITY FOUNDATIONS
1. Endowment building/personalized service
We build endowments and other funds to provide lasting support for local priorities. We make giving easy and effective, accepting a wide variety of gifts and providing donors with a number of charitable options. You can contribute cash, stocks, property, and other assets. You may establish a fund in your name or in the name of a loved one. In most cases, your gift qualifies for maximum tax advantage under federal law.
2. Local grantmaking expertise
Our staff and volunteers have an in-depth understanding of the issues, opportunities, and resources that shape our community. We evaluate all aspects of community well- being — including social services, education, the environment, health care, youth, seniors, and the arts. We can help you learn more about local organiza¬tions and programs that make a difference in areas you care about most.
3. Community leadership
As a community foundation, we support all kinds of charities, and are well-positioned to bring people and organizations together, and to convene diverse voices to address local issues and opportunities. Our business is building community.
